Kickin Crab Carrollton Review: First Visit

I finally had a chance to visit Kickin Crab in Carrollton, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting it to be this packed.

When I arrived, there was already a line forming outside, which is always a good sign but also a bit of a warning.

It definitely felt like one of those places that people keep coming back to.

First Impressions at Kickin Crab Carrollton

The moment I walked in, the restaurant was loud, busy, and full of energy.

Every table was taken, and you could see trays of seafood coming out constantly.

The vibe is very casual, almost chaotic, but in a way that makes you feel like you’re in the right place for something messy and fun.

If you’re looking for a quiet dinner spot, this is definitely not it.

The Wait

The wait was longer than I expected, especially for Carrollton where there are so many dining options.

But seeing that many people willing to stand in line kind of builds up your expectations.

At that point, I was hoping the food would actually live up to the hype.

The Food at Kickin Crab Carrollton

Once we were seated, everything moved pretty quickly, which was a relief.

We ordered head-off shrimp and crawfish for our seafood boil.

It all came out in that classic bag, dripping with sauce.

The smell alone was strong and immediately got my appetite going.

The sauce was bold, buttery, and had a nice kick to it.

It’s definitely one of those flavors that sticks with you, in a good way.

The head-off shrimp was honestly the better choice.

It was easy to eat, had a solid amount of meat, and didn’t require much effort.

If I had to do it again, I would probably just go with three pounds of shrimp instead.

The crawfish, on the other hand, felt like a lot of work for not much payoff.

You spend time peeling each one, but there’s not a whole lot of meat inside.

It wasn’t bad, but compared to the shrimp, it just didn’t feel as worth it.

The seafood overall was fresh, and everything was cooked well without being overdone.

Nothing felt dry or rubbery, which is always the biggest concern with seafood boils.

The seasoning was heavy, but that’s kind of what you expect from a place like this.

Overall Experience

Overall, Kickin Crab felt like one of those spots that’s more about the experience than just the food.

It’s loud, it’s messy, and it’s busy, but that’s part of the appeal.

The long wait can be a downside, especially if you’re hungry, but the food does a good job of making up for it.

It’s not the kind of place I would go for a relaxed dinner, but it’s perfect if you’re going with friends and want something fun and different.

What to Order at Kickin Crab Carrollton

If you’re visiting for the first time, head-off shrimp is the best option.

It’s easy to eat, has more meat, and gives better value compared to crawfish.

Crawfish requires more effort to peel and doesn’t offer much meat, so it may not be worth it unless you really enjoy it.

Just be ready for the noise, the wait, and getting your hands dirty.
